Difference between PSD templates and mockups

Default Photoshop file has extension as .PSD. It stores all the history and options during the image creation all the way to the final version. Creating a PSD file requires certain technical knowledge and versatility. On the other side, you can create simple compositions. However, not all the PSD files are the same. I will go through the basic difference between the PSD template and the mockup.
The reason what makes these files popular is the ability to re-edit different parts or design elements and create a new design. That is in common, but what is the difference between them?
Templates
PSD template is the pre-created design that allows you to adjust it to your needs without thinking about the look or design rules. By changing the color, text, or image you get the final version.
According to the type, templates can be for online use, such as social media posts and stories, banners, landing pages, etc.

But also they can be templates for print such as flyers, business cards, CVs, presentations, etc.

Who can work with templates? Everyone with basic design skills, as well as professional designers.
Mockups
While the PSD mockup is also customizable, it allows the end-user to get an idea of what the final product will look like. Mockups add value to the designs and materialize the concept by integrating it into real products and environments. They are popular because they offer the exact look of the design even if it doesn’t get applied later on.
You can use mockups to show the product or subject in a 2-dimensional realistic environment. They are available for download almost for every subject. Mockups are divided into few categories.
Branding mockups – design related to a brand’s visual identity (logo, business cards, envelopes, folders, advertising items, etc.)

Print mockups – it’s a mockup group that refers to designs in a print format or related to print media (brochures, magazines, books, newspapers, posters).

Advertising and event mockups are used for different pieces of advertising such as billboards, business signs, vehicles, stands, roll-ups, etc.

Clothing and other textile mockups are related to customization and textile supports, while device mockups integrate the design on a mobile, tablet, and other devices with a screen.

When looking at mockups for your design, it is always better to choose those with clear details: Freepik
Who can work with them? Graphic and web designers with certain technical expertise.
Conclusion
As you can see, on the internet there is a wide range of PSD templates and mockups, and it’s on you to find and choose the one who suits the best for your design.
